Midterms
Midterm exams will be continuing this week through Wednesday. The forecast is working in our favor at the moment as there does not appear to be a snow occurrence in our immediate future. However, since this is New England (and things could change at any moment), please remember that if school is cancelled, the exams that would have occurred on the missed day will take place the next day we return to school. Just a reminder if your child will be absent on the day of an exam, please contact their House Office before 8 a.m.
ALICE
On Wednesday, February 3, BMHS will be participating in our first ALICE drill that involves our students. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. In the past, we have practiced different variations of lockdowns (e.g. lockdown, Shelter-in-Place). However, based upon the feedback from the Department of Justice, FBI, and other first responders, ALICE was developed to provide staff and students involved in incidents of this type with options. Our staff has gone through multiple practice sessions and we are ready to begin the rollout with our students. We will be hosting assemblies with each of the classes beginning on Friday of this week and concluding on Tuesday, the day before the drill. This exercise is not intended to be a surprise, so we will be informing students prior to and throughout the exercise. Our exercise will be done in partnership with the Billerica Police and Fire Departments. The high school will be the first school in the district to participate with the rest of the schools completing the exercise in the spring. As you might imagine, these drills will look different at each of the schools (high school, middle school, elementary). The Superintendent will be sending home a letter describing the district exercises. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
