March 15, 2018
This Thursday, March 15, we anticipate a number of students joining a nationwide walkout to bring attention to the ongoing epidemic of school shootings in our country. While it may be argued that there are many sides to this issue, the student organizers have chosen to focus on gun control. While we agree with the students exercising their First Amendment rights, the school cannot take part in any political activity advocating a specific position. However, we will not abdicate our responsibility to protect our students. We have coordinated with our school resource officers to ensure as safe an environment as possible for our students during the march.
For students remaining in school, classes will continue as normal. When the students return to school at the conclusion of the march, we will take a second daily attendance and inform parents if their child has not returned to school.
We recognize the importance of family conversations around this issue, and encourage parents and students to engage in meaningful dialogue to determine the most appropriate response to this walkout for each individual student.
College Fair
The College Fair scheduled for Wednesday, March 14 has been postponed due to the weather. We will be announcing a new date in the upcoming weeks.Parent Conferences
Due to last week's weather and power outages, parent conferences were rescheduled to this Thursday, March 15 from 6-8 p.m. Any previously scheduled conference was automatically moved from last Thursday to this Thursday. The window to schedule appointments will remain open until this Thursday in case anyone needs to make changes, or see if any appointments may have become available.Billerica Memorial High School's Version of March Madness
