This Week at BMHS May 29 - June 7, 2017

Meet the Top Ten
2017 Top Ten
Last Wednesday, we hosted our annual Honors' Banquet to recognize the top ten students in the graduating class and the teachers they identified as having the most significant impact during their academic career. Each student had the opportunity to speak about their teacher and in turn their teacher spoke about the impact the student had on them. While each story was unique, common themes emerged throughout the evening. The students spoke about how each teacher helped cultivate a love of their subject, challenged them to work harder, and as Michael Orlando so aptly put it, "help us find our voice."

Senior Week

The Class of 2017 just completed their final exams and received their caps and gowns for our Graduation Commencement on June 6. However, before we meet at the Tsongas Arena, there are a few other rituals that need to be completed.

Senior Prank

The Class of 2017 executed the senior prank flawlessly this past Thursday, turning our cafeteria into a Bahama beach vacation. They successfully trucked in the sand, beach chairs, volleyball nets, and hula skirts to enjoy their last lunch in the "pit."

MCAS Science

Freshmen will be taking the MCAS STE (Science, Technology, and Engineering) Assessment on Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6. The freshmen will be taking the Biology assessment, while some transfer students may be taking the Chemistry, or Physics assessment. The test is untimed, but most students will have completed the testing by 10:30 a.m. each day. Every year our students do very well on the STE assessment. Please encourage/remind your student to put forth their best effort. MCAS Science became a graduation requirement beginning with the Class of 2016.

Spanish National Honor Society

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As a last act of community service before the school year is over, the Spanish National Honors Society is doing a food drive. The Spanish NHS is a group of Juniors and Seniors who, in addition to maintaining a grade of 90 or better in our Spanish classes, maintain over an 80% for all of our other  classes. Not only do we value education, we also understand the importance of giving back to the community. Over the year we have completed several community service projects and we are hoping to finish the year with one more. Therefore, we are asking, if you are able to, send in any non-perishables food items into school with your student.
All the food collected will be given to the Billerica Food Pantry.  This is a critical time for members of our community who struggle with providing food for their families.  The time is critical because summer is coming and students will be at home and will not be provided meals at school.  Please be generous in your donations for our community.
Details:
Dates:  May, 17th - 24, 2017
Collection point:  Advisory/Homeroom
Suggested donations: peanut butter, cereal, canned goods, pasta, meal starters, jelly,
Mac-n-cheese, trail mix, juice & juice boxes, granola bars, etc.

We appreciate your support.

Thank you,
Members of La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica - Esperanza
